RON CLARK

Ron Clark Academy Interview!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgrsfpI5b9c

During the Ron Clark interview they conducted the interview on the table and they talked about why Ron Clark wanted to teach at an intercity school because he felt like he could make a change in their lives. After teaching in the intercity, he wrote a book and became second best seller. He opened a school and it focuses on having fun and making learning exciting and it contains only 55 rules. This school is teaching down to the lower kid’s level and not pushing the smarter ones and also they work on integrating what they teach to the world and go on trips to get the students more involved. The students said that they felt more than ready for high school after they attended this school because Ron would set the expectations high for the students, so they could be successful. Most kids after the Ron Clark school earn scholarships to go to colleges and they stay in touch with each student and make sure that they have a good support system.

SOUTHWEST MIDDLE SCHOOL

Southwest Middle School kids visit CAPS!

Working with the middle school kids that came to visit CAPS was very different. When Mr. Ralston was talking they would continue talking and be disrespectful. They seemed like they were not interested in anything that was going on and they goofed off quite a bit. I worked with a group of young girls and I asked them from their visit if they saw anything interesting and surprisingly to me they said they loved the trip and that most of it was interesting. They all had an idea of what they wanted to be when they grew up and they were prestigious fields. I didn’t mind working with the kids from Southwest but I knew I was going to need a lot of patience with those kids, but then again you will need patience with all small kids you work with.

KTOY'14 REFLECTION

CAPS FIELD TRIP!

Another topic I enjoyed and I think is crucial is the Community based school projects because it allows all students to attend and it reaches out for creativity, which is something society today is missing. One day a year Jenney Nash and her Elementary school take the kids art work, projects, and more and set up a museum in the school and the kids can attend that night. This year they have changed it so the museum will be up in the last day of school so if kids don’t have a chance to see it the day before then they can see it on the last day. This is important for teachers because it allows them to have fun with their kids while being educational. Teachers can help students come up with ideas and it allows students a day to get to see something they might not be able to see often.

                                         Acceptance

Michael has a hard time accepting/listening to other people’s ideas so I would find out what he thinks about a topic and find other kids that agree with him. After a while of doing this I would begin to explain to Michael that they can be different viewpoints on topics and he should listen because they could change his point of view. I would do kinesthetic activities in groups so he could begin to work with people and get to know them. I think it would be important for Michael to interact with other students because they would most likely like him and want to be his friend. I would also do a lesson on the kind of people the students want to be when they get older. A lesson over acceptance would be important in this situation because it would help other students understand that Michael is just like them. It is important at a young age that students know that everyone is human no matter if you skinny, fat, gay, autistic, catholic, smart, or an outsider because in the end we are all human and should be thankful for the people we have around us.
